Meg (メグ, Megu) is a character who appears in Suikoden, Suikoden II and Genso Suikogaiden Vol.2. Meg is an adventurous trickster eager to explore and learn the tricks of her trade.

History

Adventure calls!

—  Meg

Meg was a young woman from Lenankamp, who, while pure and positive, was also reckless and did not think about the consequences of her actions. She ran away from home, shouting her maxim "Adventure calls!", much to the frustration of her parents, in the hopes of becoming a trickster. That said, her parents did encourage her thirst for knowledge.

Just don't learn his fashion sense, Meg.

She would eventually end up in Kaku, looking for her uncle Juppo, regarded as one of the world's finest tricksters. It was said her costuming was a deliberate attempt to mimic her uncle. She eventually encountered him and joined the Toran Liberation Army against his wishes in order to learn the trickster trade from him. Juppo refused to teach her during this time, which frustrated Meg to a large extent.

Following the end of the Gate Rune War, Meg apparently returned home for a short time before leaving again, once more stating "Adventure calls!" Meg would eventually catch up with Juppo, spending the next two years at his Rikon workshop and generally disrupting his actual work rather than tinkering with the box of spare and broken parts he would frequently try and direct her to. Her bad habit of ignoring blueprints and hastily disassembling and reassembling creations in different (usually non-working, smoke spewing, exploding) configurations, often frustrated her uncle.

He's a barrel of fun! Get it? Because he's... Ah, forget it.

He would build her Gadget. After that, he would leave, feeling both that Meg needed to see more of the world to become a true trickster and that she needed to return to Lenankamp under Gadget's escort. Meg attempted to follow him, reasoning he would go to the City-States of Jowston, before losing track of him.

She was noted for not really thinking ahead, even her pursuit of Juppo had no real reasoning behind it, save for her craving of adventure. It was noted that her fearlessness made her a fine candidate as a trickster, but her lack of finesse when working with small parts practically cancelled that out, often frustrating her.

After the fall of Muse, Meg would try to cross the Muse-Greenhill Checkpoint but was refused admittance by the Highland Army after Gadget refused to fight them, much to her frustration. She then noticed the hero, who had witnessed the incident and after realizing who he was, and reckoning he resembled Juppo, she decided to join the New Alliance Army.

Meg would often experiment on Gadget, taking him apart and putting him back together again, usually with a few extra screws left over. Although her talents as a trickster had advanced significantly, her tinkering was far from perfect, and Gadget would often try to hide from the impetuous young inventor.

Following the Dunan Unification War, she continued to seek out her uncle, riding on Gadget all the while. She would end up heading on a journey to the One Temple in the Holy Kingdom of Harmonia in order to improve her skills as a trickster, reasoning that Juppo would also journey there.

During the trip, she would undergo a magical adventure alongside Nash and Millie, thanks to Viki's teleport magic. She greatly enjoyed the adventure and even ended up meeting her own matured future self, who was hired by Tony to repair a well pump on his farm.

Sometime after these adventures, Meg would have a daughter named Belle who would continue in her footsteps as a trickster. Meg would upgrade Gadget into the new Gadget Z for her daughter before wandering off on her own continued adventures.

Trivia

  • If you bring Meg to her parents' house in Lenankamp near the end of the first game, they will assume that McDohl is her new husband and awkwardness ensues.
  • Apparently the color of Meg's stockings in Suikoden was a topic of hot debate among the development team.
