Sigfried (ジークフリート, Jīkufurīto) is a supporting character in Suikoden II. A unicorn living within the Unicorn Woods outside of Kobold Village, Sigfried issues the Test of the Unicorn to those warriors brave enough to attempt it.

History

By the ancient pact, I pledge my might as a member of the White Conclave to this holy maiden...

— Sigfried
You can't just ask a woman if they're a "Maiden", geez!

Sigfried is a sacred presence that has dwelled in the Unicorn Woods near Kobold Village, known only as a legend. It was said he only appeared in the presence of a pure maiden and that deep within the woods there was a village of unicorns. That said, Sigfried himself had never met another unicorn.

Labeling himself a member of the "White Conclave", he was also the bearer of the rare White Saint Rune. It was kobold lore that he tested the bravery of warriors by means of a trial, the Test of the Unicorn. Sigfried himself had never tested anyone in this manner, however. His only interest was in maidens.

Hix and Tengaar attempted to take the trial during the Dunan Unification War. Although the citizens of the Kobold Village agreed to construct a fake trial, for Hix's benefit, they were shocked when Sigfried really did appear and kidnap Tengaar. Hix stood firm and refused to do as the unicorn demanded, thus passing the trial set out for him. Satisfied in the couple's bond, Sigfried took his leave.

Later during the Dunan Unification War, with a Listening Orb from Badeaux and a maiden in tow, Sigfried was encountered once more and was convinced to join the New State Army for the duration of the war. Following the war, Sigfried simply returned quietly to the forest, having little interest in anything but pure maidens.

Recruitment

Recruitment
After recruiting Hix and Tengaar and if you have at least one set of Listening Orbs acquired from recruiting Badeaux, return to the Unicorn Woods where you confronted Sigfried previously with a "maiden" in the party (Ayda, Eilie, Karen, Kasumi, Meg, Mikumiku, Millie, Nanami, Nina, Tengaar, Tomo, Viki or Wakaba) and agree to let him join.

Trivia

  • His name is spelled as Sigfried rather than the more standard Siegfried in Suikoden II (1998) to fit the eight character limitation for name boxes.
  • The full list of girls who can recruit Sigfried: Ayda, Eilie, Karen, Kasumi, Meg, Mikumiku, Millie, Nanami, Nina, Tengaar, Tomo, Viki and Wakaba.
  • A special scene can be seen if one brings Sierra Mikain to the Unicorn Woods when attempting to recruit Sigfried. Unfortunately, Sigfried will not join if you do so.
  • Sigfried's critical attack is a completely different animation than his normal attack.
