Mondo (モンド, Mondo) is a character in Suikoden II. He is an experienced Rokkaku Hamlet ninja.

History

Mondo was a ninja originating from Rokkaku Hamlet. Regarded as a senior ninja in comparison to Sasuke and Kasumi, Mondo held the rank of middle-ranked chūnin. However, his potential for advancement to high-ranked jōnin was constrained by his bloodline. Despite this limitation, Mondo earned the trust of Hanzo, who esteemed his capabilities.

He bore the Mayfly Rune, which had been passed down to ninja since ancient times. The rune allowed Mondo to teleport short distances by projecting his thoughts. It also allowed him to make ephemeral clones, a useful skill for any ninja and Mondo's strongest skill.

This trust earned Mondo the role as the head instructor of the Swallow House, which included Sasuke. Although he was a strict teacher, he was also a big-hearted man who laughed a lot, earning him the respect of his young charges.

Mondo occasionally displayed a lighthearted aspect of his personality, as evidenced by his teasing of Sasuke concerning his affections for Kasumi. This playful demeanor contrasted his typically composed and serious disposition.

He was one of the ninja who survived the destruction of Rokkaku during the Gate Rune War, having been responsible for evacuating the children of the village at the time. He would later participate in the last battle of the war under Hanzo's command.

During the Dunan Unification War, Mondo and Sasuke received orders from Hanzo to provide assistance to the leader of the New Alliance Army, leading to his integration into the force. Sasuke looked up to him as a father figure, having no memories of his parents.

Mondo, while experienced and skillful, consistently dedicated substantial daily effort to honing his speed and jumping prowess. Frequent training sessions with Kasumi also underscored his commitment. Mondo's combat style centered around a claw weapon affixed to his right hand.

A pivotal contribution occurred during the battle at South Window Principality, during which Mondo undertook a covert mission within the Highland Army camp. His participation contributed to the successful rescue of the captured General Ridley Wizen.

While Mondo encountered some challenges adapting to a life beyond Rokkaku, such as lodging at the New Alliance Army Headquarters in a bed rather than a futon, he found contentment in the army's training facility, the castle's dojo.

Following the culmination of the Dunan Unification War, Mondo returned to Rokkaku, his sense of duty fulfilled.
