Liukan (リュウカン, Ryuukan) is a supporting character in Suikoden who makes a cameo in Suikoden II. He is considered to be the finest physician in all of the Toran Republic.
History
|

Liukan was renowned as the "Holy Doctor," and his true age remained a mystery, even to himself, having lived so long he could no longer recall it. His medical skill was peerless; any ailment treated by his prescriptions was swiftly cured, earning him widespread reverence as a healer.
Many traveled to Rikon to seek his help over the years. In the past he even treated Sheena, Lepant's son. Yet, though he could mend the body, he lamented that he could not heal the turmoil in men's hearts that drove them to war and violence. Disillusioned by the chaos of the age, he withdrew from the world, retreating deep into the mountains in seclusion.
During the Gate Rune War, General Milich Oppenheimer, fearing Liukan might devise an antidote to the deadly poison of his flower Antoinette, had him forcibly taken and imprisoned in Soniere Prison. Though Liukan had refused to involve himself with medicine, his captivity persisted until the Toran Liberation Army stormed the fortress to free him.
When Gremio sacrificed himself to shield his comrades, Liukan was moved, declaring that though he sought to withdraw from the world, he could no longer not involve himself. From that moment, he resolved to lend his skills to the liberation cause.
Liukan proved invaluable, neutralizing Milich’s poisonous fog and later rousing the slumbering dragons with his remedies. Despite his advanced years, he even took to the battlefield, wielding his walking staff with surprising force. During the war, he resided in Toran Castle, often in discourse with the monk Fukien, the two reflecting somberly on the toll of conflict.
When peace came, Liukan established a clinic, saving countless lives—yet he remained a recluse, seldom descending from his mountain refuge. Years later, during the Dunan Unification War, he emerged once more to treat the youth Ko, who had been poisoned by a monstrous attack in Banner Pass, proving his mastery undiminished by time.
