Windy (ウィンディ, Uindei) is a main antagonist in Suikoden. A Court Magician within the Scarlet Moon Empire, Windy utilizes her influential position and formidable magical abilities in relentless pursuit of the Soul Eater.
History
|
Windy was a formidable magician and member of the Clan of the Gate. She was also the bearer of the front half of the Gate Rune, acquired during an assault by the Holy Kingdom of Harmonia on the clan.
During this encounter, Windy and her clan sister, Leknaat, divided the rune, with each taking a portion and subsequently employing the Gate Rune's powers to escape. Windy assumed ownership of the "front" Gate Rune, granting her the capability to summon monsters into the world.
In the aftermath of the aforementioned attack, Windy's heart sank into despair, fueling her fervent desire for vengeance against Harmonia, High Priest Hikusaak, and the entire world. This thirst for retribution compelled her to pursue another True Rune relentlessly. Initially targeting Leknaat's half of the Gate Rune, her endeavors proved fruitless.
Subsequently, Windy fixated on a new objective, the Rune of Life and Death, developing an unnatural obsession with it. Her relentless quest for the True Rune resulted in the repeated recurrences of the tragic event that had been inflicted upon her by Harmonia in the past.
Windy's pursuit of the Soul Eater spanned over three centuries, reaching the year SY 449. At this point, she had ascended to the esteemed position of Court Magician within the Scarlet Moon Empire. Leveraging her physical resemblance to the late Empress Claudia, Windy garnered ever-increasing power and influence within the Empire, particularly over Emperor Barbarosa, who was drawn to her anguish.
Manipulating the Empire through her magical prowess, she granted Conqueror Runes to the Great Generals and to Barbarosa, effectively maintaining control over them. During this period, she succeeded in locating Ted and sought to claim the Soul Eater from him. However, Ted managed to evade her, transferring the rune to its successor.
Following Barbarosa's defeat in the climax of the Gate Rune War, Windy confronted him once again in a bid to gain control of the Soul Eater from McDohl. To her dismay, the Rune rejected her, causing great anguish. Barbarosa, revealing his love for Windy and his autonomy, unyielding to her Conqueror Rune's influence due to his Sovereign Rune's protection, embraced her and leaped from the Floating Garden.
Windy's fate remains shrouded in mystery, as she was never located following this event. Her whereabouts remain unknown.
Trivia
- Though the game frequently refers to Leknaat as Windy's sister, the two are clan sisters only and are officially unrelated.
