Anji (アンジー, Anjī) is a supporting character who appears in Suikoden. Anji is the leader of a gang of pirates, a crew which operated on Lake Toran.
History
|
Anji led a crew of lake pirates who rampaged the Lake Toran area, trading in smuggled goods, during the Gate Rune War. Prior to becoming a bandit, he was a merchant who owned his own ship before becoming a pirate in order to fight against the tyranny of the Scarlet Moon Empire, alongside Kanak and Leonardo. Naturally, his relationship with the Imperial Navy was correspondingly awful, with him and Sonya Shulen frequently at loggerheads.
Anji joined the Toran Liberation Army when he and his crew were defeated by Tai Ho, Yam Koo and the hero in battle, after Tai Ho had goaded Anji into the challenge by accusing him of "wasting away" at the Pirate's Fortress. Despite going through hell with the Imperial Navy already, Anji's pride was easily affronted by Tai Ho's words. Although Anji made his living through illegal activities, he was far from being a villain and kept to his word.
At Toran Castle, it seems he stationed himself and his followers far from the center of the castle as he found it too formal and strict. As part of the The Pirates unit, Anji helped secure the battle for the water during the Gate Rune War, going through carnage and bloodshed, ruling Lake Toran in the face of the Empire. Following the war, Anji re-entered the world of legitimate shipping with his subordinates. With his talents, he became quite successful.
