Griffith was appointed the commanding officer of the [[Northern Checkpoint]] during the [[Gate Rune War]], to protect [[Moravia Castle]] from the south. As an officer of the [[Scarlet Moon Empire]], Griffith always posed as a slippery person but in actuality, he cared for the lives of his troops more than his own pride.
 
His airy demeanor covered his more serious and responsible attitude towards his men. This trait was exploited by the [[Toran Liberation Army]] in their [[Battle at the Northern Checkpoint|attack on the Northern Checkpoint]] as Griffith quickly agreed to surrender in exchange for the lives of his men.

Following his surrender, Griffith joined the Liberation Army and aided the rescue of [[Warren]] from [[Moravia Castle]].
