Morgan (モーガン, Mōgan) is a supporting character in Suikoden. Morgan is a blind former gladiator who currently studies at Qlon Temple.

History

The light in my eyes may have been taken from me, but the light in my soul continues to burn.

—  Morgan

Morgan was once a gladiator slave in the far southern Queendom of Falena. Due to his abilities as a hand-to-hand fighter, he was eventually blinded to even the odds against his opponents. Even after this brutal act, Morgan was a peerless combatant and was eventually sold on.

That scar across my empty eye sockets? Birthmark.

His slave ship would be wrecked at sea and Morgan would eventually be washed ashore. He made his way to the Scarlet Moon Empire and eventually entered Qlon Temple. Although unable to see, Morgan was said to be exceptionally skilled at seeing people's hearts.

Morgan was encountered by the Toran Liberation Army studying at Qlon Temple due to, as he described it, special circumstances. There, Morgan told McDohl that he had been born blind and when asked, agreed to join the Liberation Army, saying he could see a big sky behind McDohl's back with his mind's eye.

He did not experience his blindness as a hinderance, explaining that the true essence of things went far beyond what could be seen. He spent his time at Toran Castle in the outdoors, enjoying the feel of the sun on his skin. The claws he used to fight for the Liberation Army are the same claws he used when he was a slave fighting as a gladiator.

Following the end of the Gate Rune War, Morgan returned to Qlon Temple in order to resume his training.

Trivia

  • In Suikoden V, Shoon makes reference to a gladiator he had heard was blinded due to his skill and was sold on once he still proved unbeatable, referring to Morgan. Given the dates involved, this would mean Morgan was blinded and sold when he was aged 13 at the most.
