Kai (カイ, Kai) is a supporting character in Suikoden. Kai is a master stickfighter who trained the younf McDohl in the use of his staff.
History
|

Kai was the hero's former bo staff instructor, living in the household of Teo McDohl. One day he disappeared, only saying that he was going for a walk and never returning.
Years later, during the Gate Rune War, Kai encountered the hero again at the Fortress of Garan, where Kai wanted to journey west, but was prevented from doing so due to the Imperial Army crackdown and so offered his services and support to the Toran Liberation Army.
Even after becoming leader of the Liberation Army, the hero always referred to Kai as "Master Kai" with deference and respect. Kai's presence helped to bolster the hero's heart as he suffered from having to duel his own father over the course of the war. From the master's standpoint, the hero still had a lot to learn.
In battle, Kai used his Haziness Rune as well as numerous other stunning tricks to gain the upper hand in battle. His staff was quite long, slightly taller than Kai himself and was of a simple design, save for the gold tips on both ends.
Following the formation of the Toran Republic, Kai became one of the country's Six Great Generals and instructed troops in the use of bo staffs. As the past instructorof the Gate Rune War's hero, he held a great deal of respect among his charges. By the year 475, Kai vacated his position and assumed the title of Honorary General.
