Rubi was an [[elf]] who abandoned the [[Village of the Elves]] after pointing out its adherence to tired, old traditions, when [[Kirkis]] was a youth.


During the [[Gate Rune War]], he travelled to [[Kobold Village (Suikoden)|Kobold Village]] where he encountered Kirkis again. He rebuffed Kirkis' request for him to join the [[Toran Liberation Army]], but later reversed his decision and agreed after realizing what a great warrior Kirkis had become in his absence. Following the Liberation War, Rubi was welcomed by Kirkis into the Village of the Elves and helped in its reconstruction.
Witnessing the remarkable growth of Kirkis into a formidable warrior, transcending the boundaries of race and fighting for his convictions, Rubi realized he was still mired in old ways of thinking and was compelled to join forces.
 
Embracing the role of an archer, Rubi fought valiantly throughout the war. He would spend his free time atop the roof of [[Toran Castle]], used to being alone, though he did grow more comfortable with having comrades he cared about in time.
