Maas was the apprentice of the legendary blacksmith, [[Mace]] but still considered himself a beginner. [[Hero (Suikoden)|McDohl]] found Maas working in the [[Great Forest Village]] and allowed an eager Maas to join the fledgling [[Toran Liberation Army]].
