Appearances

Kwanda Rosman (クワンダ・ロスマン, Kuwanda Rosuman) is a supporting character in Suikoden. One of the Five Great Generals of the Scarlet Moon Empire, Kwanda Rosman loyally served Barbarossa for 10 years.

Profile

Appearance

Kwanda Rosman was a large, powerful man. He had blue eyes. He is never shown without his helmet and full body armor, so his hair color is unknown. His silver armor consists of large pauldrons, a breast plate, graves, and gauntlets. His chest plate alone weighs over 30kg (66 lbs.). Underneath he wears navy blue clothing as well as a red tabard.

His halberd has an axe head attached to one side of the spearhead and a thorn on the opposite side.

Personality

Some assume that Kwanda's strength lies in his armor, but they would be mistaken. He is able to fight for long periods of time without any loss of stamina due to his armor. He also has the mental strength to continue defending himself against any attack without moving at all, and to aim for an opening in the enemy.

He has inexhaustible stamina and unbreakable mental strength. He was stern looking and known to have a short temper but was also respected as a honorable man.

His loyalty to Emperor Barbarossa was absolute but he also held firm to his convictions as a warrior, declaring he could not serve the current emperor, whoever they were, in the crumbling Scarlet Moon Empire. It is said that if he were not under the corrupting influence of Windy's Conqueror Rune he would have been even more difficult for the hero to overcome in battle.

History

My loyalty to Emperor Barbarossa remains unwavering, but I cannot, under good conscience, serve His Majesty as he is now.

—  Kwanda Rosman
What if you both wore armor though?

Kwanda Rosman was a powerful soldier and Great General who favors the use of the halberd in battle. Kwanda was born into a military family and his impressive armor had been handed down through his family for generations.

When the War of Succession broke out, Kwanda was an officer stationed at Pannu Yakuta Castle. He would become part of Barbarossa's forces when Barbarossa began to reorganize his forces from the region. Kwanda's force, which protected Barbarossa, became known as the Guard. Following the war, they would be reorganized into the Imperial Guard.

During the War of Succession, he once used his own body as a shield when Barbarossa was taken by surprise by a volley of archers and had a visible scar since. He wore his armor ever since. He became known as "Iron Wall Rosman" and "Kwanda the Insurmountable" for his invulnerable defense, heavy armor and dedication towards protecting Barbarossa's life during the war.

What's 10 years between co-conspirators?

Five years prior to the Gate Rune War, Kwanda Rosman was stationed at Pannu Yakuta Castle and, later, under the influence of Windy's Conqueror Rune, violated the Great Contract, culminating in his use of the Burning Mirror to destroy the Village of the Elves. In response to this, the Toran Liberation Army defeated Kwanda at the Battle at Pannu Yakuta and its leader defeated Kwanda in a duel.

Freed from the effects of the Black Rune and realizing that the Empire was quickly becoming corrupt beyond repair, Kwanda initially requested to be executed as befitting a warrior. However, the hero would convince him to join the Liberation Army as his work was not finished. He wished to remonstrate with the emperor and be the wall that shielded him from the corrupt influences destroying the Empire.

As a former Great General, he was more comfortable spending time with his fellow former imperials at Toran Castle. Following the fall of the Scarlet Moon Empire, he became the Commander in Chief of the Republican Army, his dilligence making him best suited for uniting the former Liberation Army and the remaining remnants of the Imperial Army, showing that the new Toran Republic was also insurmountable.

Trivia

  • The names for Kwanda’s Hatchets: Alkaid, Mizar, and Alioth, are stars in the constellation Ursa Major, forming the tail of the bear; these stars are also present in the constellation of the Big Dipper.
  • Kwanda is the first Star of Destiny the player will encounter who has the option of being executed. Should one choose to execute Kwanda when given the first opportunity to do so, Windy will show up to taunt the player, but she will not appear if the player chooses to kill Kwanda later on in the scene after he requests his execution.
