History

It's difficult to change one's way of life at my age.

—  Sanchez

Sanchez was a man of keen intellect and meticulous calculation, renowned for his mastery of finance. He first served under Barbarossa Rugner during the War of Succession, where his administrative prowess earned him distinction.

In the early days of the Toran Liberation Army, Sanchez joined their ranks, taking charge of their treasury. His prodigious memory and encyclopedic knowledge of logistics earned him the sobriquet "Sanchez the Living Archive." Yet beneath this façade lay his true allegiance as a covert agent of the Scarlet Moon Empire.

During the Gate Rune War, Sanchez's betrayal led to the Imperial assault on the Liberation Army's hideout in Lenankamp, resulting in the death of Odessa Silverberg. Though remorse gnawed at him, he maintained his deception, rejoining the surviving rebels and even managing their officers' schedules. Yet as the conflict deepened, so too did his inner turmoil, torn between newfound camaraderie and sworn duty to the Empire.

When Mathiu Silverberg deduced a spy lurked among them and restricted communications, Sanchez's effectiveness waned. But at the Battle at Floating Fortress Shasarazade, he struck openly, stabbing Mathiu and setting the floating fortress ablaze, trapping his former comrades in the inferno.

Confronted by Flik, who had fought beside Sanchez since the rebellion's dawn, Sanchez's entire history of betrayal was laid bare. Enraged, Flik prepared to execute him and Sanchez, resigned to fate, did not resist.

Yet Mathiu, ever the strategist, intervened, delaying judgment to preserve morale. Thus Sanchez remained, forced to serve as if untainted by treachery until war's end.

With the Toran Republic established, President Lepant granted Sanchez a private pardon—not for mercy, but necessity, lest exposure of his betrayal shatter the fragile new order. In exchange for his life, Sanchez was sworn to exile, swearing never to associate with Republic officials again. He withdrew to Qlon Temple in Lorimar, where he lived out his days in penitent solitude.
