The Mercenary Fortress (傭兵砦, Youhei Toride) is a location in Suikoden II.
Information
This mercenary fortress was built with the assistance of Muse City following the Gate Rune War. Viktor served as the leader of the soldiers stationed there with Flik serving as his second-in-command. Anabelle supported its establishment in an attempt to deter the Highland Kingdom from invading.
Located in eastern Muse Principality, south of Ryube Village, the fortress is surrounded by forest to the east and west. The flag which waved proudly over the fortress was designed by Viktor. It was also the place where the hero was first taken in after jumping from Tenzan Pass. Its soldiers were known for their skill and tenacity in battle.
Still, the fortress would fall early in the Dunan Unification War to the onslaught of the Highland Army under Luca Blight. Viktor was able to delay the fortress' occupation by setting it ablaze. It would be occupied by the New Alliance Army late in the war after troops were moved there in order to divide the attention of the Highland Army.
In a sense, the officers of the Mercenary Fortress could be considered the forbearers to the New Alliance Army.
