Leo Galan (レオ・ガラン, Reo Garan) is a supporting character in Suikoden III. Leo is one of the Six Mighty Zexen Knights.
History
|
Leo was one of the renowned Six Mighty Knights, the most skilled of the Zexen Knights. Leo was born the son of a nobleman, and chose to join the Zexen Knights because he had been interested in martial arts since he was a child.
As his appearance suggested, he had a brash personality as well as fearless on the battlefield. He struggled with more nuanced aspects of knightdom such as politics. He was a heavy drinker. He was also competitive and hated to lose at anything. His size and unrivaled strength, combined with his imposing armor, custom made for his frame, led him to gain the nickname "Iron Leo".
When Leo first entered the ranks of the Zexen Knights, he had brute strength but was not much with a sword, leading to many sullen hours practicing futilely. It would be Knight Captain Galahad who would suggest that Leo leverage his power by wielding an axe in battle, restoring Leo's zeal.
As a result of Galahad's advice, Leo was soon one of the most powerful knights. After the death of Galahad, Leo felt guilty for not being there to protect his captain. He would swear to protect Chris Lightfellow with his life to make up for this.
Once the War of the Champions broke out, Leo was one of the knights who led the Zexen raid on the Great Hollow. There, he clashed with Percival Fraulein slightly. Percival cited the need for calm on the battlefield but Leo was determined to rouse his men with a passionate speech following the loss of their countrymen in the surprise attack.
After joining the Fire Bringer, he engaged in a series of long bath matches with Wan Fu and Mua, two men also proud of their power. Leo's strength never faltered in the conflict, even after the final battle at the Ceremonial Site where, surrounded by monsters, Leo vowed to fight his way out singlehandedly if necessary.
Following the War of the Champions, Leo would continue to serve the Zexen Knights proudly in their border disputes with the Tinto Republic, always giving his all.

Trivia
- Leo's weapon upgrades as Schnabel, Schutozahn, Horn, German for beak, "protection tooth" and horn. The second name is incorrectly transcribed, it should be Schutzzahn. It's noteworthy that Schutzzahn is not a word known in German.
- Leo gets up to S level in his Damage and Armor Protect skill. He gets the unique skills Adrenaline Power and Fighting Spirit, able to reach S and A levels in these, respectively. As awesome as his Melee gets, Leo's Magic ability might as well be nonexistent.
- Leo participates in the Knight B attack with Chris, and Borus or Percival. This only works when the party are mounted on horses. Leo also participates in the Manly Attack with Mua or Wan Fu.
