Barts (バーツ, Bātsu) is a supporting character in Suikoden III, a kind-hearted farmer devoted to growing tomatoes. Despite his rakish appearance, he is gentle, often talking to his crops. After his fields are destroyed, he joins the Fire Bringer, supplying fresh produce for their army.
History
|
Barts was a man of simple heart and honest labor, a tiller of the earth who found his joy in the nurturing of the soil. Though his appearance was rakish, his true strength lay in his devotion to the land. Many who saw him might have mistaken him as debonair, yet his hands knew only the plow and the vine.
From dawn until dusk, he toiled in the fields, speaking to his crops as though they were dear friends. Above all, he cherished the tomato, pouring his passion into its cultivation, believing that food grown with love would bring happiness to those who ate it. His labor was ceaseless as he rose before the sun and rested only when the rains came, never seeking leisure or idle pleasures.

When the War of the Champions came to Iksay Village, his fields were laid to waste, and he was left with nothing. Yet fortune smiled upon him when he was invited to tend the fields at Budehuc Castle. With gratitude, he took up his hoe anew, his face alight with purpose. There, he supplied the castle's kitchens with the finest produce, with him praising Mamie for being so skilled with his ingredients.
He was known to converse with his plants, to smile upon them as one would a child. A strange habit to some, yet none could deny the bounty he reaped. Mel received his tomatoes with reverence, and Connie followed him as if drawn by his kindness. Kathy and Sasarai also received some of his produce, while Bright occasionally helped him in the fields.
When peace returned, he went back to Iksay Village, where he began anew, contentedly sowing seeds in freshly turned earth.
