Belle (ベル, Beru) is a supporting character in Suikoden III. Belle is a journeying trickster, searching for her mother, Meg.

History

A young lady who travels with a clockwork doll called Gadget Z, which she is skilled at repairing.

Belle was a young girl who traveled the land alongside Gadget Z, a remarkable clockwork automaton powered by alchemical mechanisms. Though she possessed the rare skills of a trickster, a craft scarcely seen in the world, her abilities remained unrefined, and none of her own creations had yet functioned properly.

She was the daughter of Meg, a veteran of the Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars, who had crafted Gadget Z before mysteriously vanishing. Driven by both a desire to hone her craft and to find her missing mother, Belle wandered the land, her journey leading her to join the Flame Champion's cause during the War of the Heroes after receiving aid in repairing her broken automaton.

Despite her rough speech and brash demeanor, Belle harbored a softer side, particularly around Hugo, for whom she had developed an immediate infatuation. In his presence, she struggled to maintain an uncharacteristically polite and girlish demeanor, often stumbling over her words in flustered embarrassment.

Her letters in the Budehuc Castle Suggestion Box revealed a mix of forced refinement and her usual bluntness. To Hugo she wrote of flower fields and home-made sweaters, while to others she complained about Mel's eccentric bathing habits, and expressed irritation at Aila's familiarity with Hugo.

Belle’s technical skills were questionable at best. Kidd noted that while she could manipulate Gadget Z’s cognitive circuits to make it speak as she pleased, none of her own inventions had ever worked. She was occasionally seen in the company of Viki and Mel, though it was dryly noted that "all three could pass for beauties if they’d just stay quiet."

Following the war, Belle continued her travels with Gadget Z, striving to become a true master of her craft while never abandoning hope of one day reuniting with her mother.
