Takamu (タカム, Takamu) is a minor character in Suikoden V. Takamu is a talented cartographer with a truly awe-inspiring sense of direction.
History
Takamu was a former court official, and cartographer blessed a truly exceptional sense of direction. Believing that maps should be made freely available to all, Takamu was ordered by Ferid, who agreed with his views, to create and publish the most detailed map of Falena to date.
Once the Queen's Assassination occurred, Takamu was arrested and his maps seized, the Godwin Faction maintaining that maps were breaches of national security. He later noted that the Barows Faction shared similar views on the matter. Imprisoned in Agate Prison, Takamu was eventually released by the Prince. Grateful, and wishing to repay Ferid's belief in the freedom of mapping, Takamu joined the Imperial City Recapture Army, presenting him with a map of Falena to aid him on his travels.
His maps are considered to be perfect, even Shigure was unable to find any flaws in his work. Also, his keen eye for detail and superb sense of direction meant that he would never get lost even in caves and forests. In fact, he was even able to navigate through elven wards in the North Lunas Woods, much to the shock of Isato, who demanded to know how he had done it. A stunned Takamu had no reply as he had used no tricks or magic, just relying on his senses and experience.
As a perfectionist, Takamu was always looking for opportunities to expand and improve his maps. He would ask Shoon to guide him around Stormfist's underground passages in order to improve his maps, but not before asking Egbert Aethelbald for assistance. He soon decided to ask Shoon instead, however, when forced to put up with Egbert's rants regarding Godwin plots and the like. He was also highly embarrassed that he had known nothing about the cave within the Big Hole that the Prince and Jeane had explored.
Following the war, he took on the seemingly impossible task of mapping Falena's underground water veins while the dwarves continued to tunnel around and through it.
