Nelvan (ネルヴァン, Neruvuan) is a supporting character in Genso Suikoden Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki. Nelvan is a great magicite crafter and, covertly, a historical researcher.
History

Originally a nobleman from the Holy City of Thaksis, Nelvan was a magicite researcher and crafter who fought alongside Rolf Laug and Thorwad Albreck during their war against the Teras Pharma before withdrawing to continue his research in the Apiro Desert, east of Zephtelos Fortress.
However, his magicite research was merely a cover story for his true motivations. Nelvan was dedicated to the point of obsession with uncovering the buried history of the Holy Empire of Ionia, disagreeing with their policies. Researching magicite allowed him access to relics and texts that would otherwise arouse suspicion from the authorities.
Nelvan had constructed a number of highly plausible hypotheses about what had been suppressed in Ionian history, but refused to discuss them with anyone, even his comrades, out of fear that word would lead back to the Yggdrasilian Throne. It was only when the hero revealed he was from 100 years in the future, that Nelvan felt comfortable divulging some of his conclusions.
Although he was willing to share these conclusions in order to preserve his knowledge for the future in some form, Nelvan was highly reluctant to work for free. When he was asked to plant an Era Tree sapling, he refused to until he was told he would see a ship in person if he did. Sadly, when the ship was restored, Nelvan was disappointed as he realized history had been changed and he was used to ships as a concept now.
