The hero (主人公, Shujinkō), known by several different names, is the protagonist of Genso Suikoden Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki. He is a young swordsman from Therbe Village and inheritor of one branch of Blue Flash Style swordplay.
History
A young swordsman from the remote Therbe Village, the hero began his training at the age of 5. He trained under his mother, Syggni Albreck, determined to fight alongside her should the centennial monsters appear in 10 years' time.
However, he would lose his mother when she got involved in a planned uprising at Martylion some seven years later, three years before the dawn of the fourth century. News of her death greatly disturbed the young hero, with him taking quite some time to overcome his desire for bloody-minded vengeance, although he did hold a lingering resentment towards the Holy Empire of Ionia as a result.
In HIY 300, the attack of the centennial monsters would see the hero and his friends come into contact with Zephon and the power of the Era Tree. Using the tree, he would travel back to HIY 200 and receive training in his Blue Flash Style from his own ancestor, Thorwad Albreck, the two forming a quick bond.
His brush with the centennial monsters saw him earn an audience with Holy Emperor Renefarious XIII in the Holy City of Thaksis. Returning from Thaksis, the hero would see Schradt in ruins and witness the birth of the Vermilion Axe, a group dedicated to the bloody-minded vengeance that he had long since set aside.
Seeking answers, the hero pursued the Vermilion Axe, gaining his own allies along the way and quickly gaining a reputation as a third force unbeholden to either the Vermilion Axe or Ionia. All while making use of the Era Tree to mitigate the Vermilion Axe's ploys and learn from the heroes of 100 and 200 years prior.
On the Martylion Wastes, the hero would meet Tserendrum, an old friend of his mother, who confirmed her death. Further encounters with the Vermilion Axe's Rochelle Kollek would shake his confidence as she claimed that Syggni had been a Vermilion Axe sympathizer prior to her death at Ionian hands.
However, the truth would come out that not only were the Vermilion Axe being manipulated by Ionia all along, but that Rochelle had killed Syggni in Martylion for discovering this truth. After realizing that the Holy Empire of Ionia was misleading the people, pitting them against each other in the hopes of uniting the populace against a common foe, the hero would turn his sights on the Holy Empire itself.
In a final raid on the Yggdrasilian Palace in Thaksis, the hero would learn Renefarious' motives for maintain the closed cycle he had enforced on the remnants of humanity. Rejecting the inevitability of the world falling again into disaster, the hero and his allies would defeat Renefarious and sever the threads of causality between the three timelines visited, allowing each world to develop on its own path.
Following the fall of the barrier, the hero would lead a ship to a new continent with his friends, continuing to explore after founding the first settlement there.
Name
The hero of Genso Suikoden Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki has no in-game name. His player-entered name is left out of all spoken dialog. In an in-game tutorial screenshot found in the game's files, the name Yusuke (ゆうすけ, Yūsuke) is used for him.
