Kirinji (キリンジ, Kirinji) is a weapon seen in both Suikoden and Suikoden II. It is the sword of the Lepant family.

Information

This sword was held by the Lepant family for many generations. The origin of the name of the sword is not known but it is thought to stem from a term referring to a prodigious young talent.

The sword was said to bring wealth and honor to the house of whoever wields it. As such, Kirinji was considered one of Lepant's treasures and is one of his most prized possessions. It was said the only thing he valued more was his wife, Eileen.

Lepant hired Juppo to create a security system to prevent the theft of Kirinji. When the sword was stolen by the Toran Liberation Army to force a meeting, Lepant immediately chased down the thieves to reclaim his lost heirloom. Following the meeting, the sword was immediately returned to its owner.

Kirinji was a well-made flamberge of obvious quality and was considered to be a superb sword. The blade, forged like a pillar of fire, served to widen the wound of an attacker, and despite its beautiful appearance, was a vicious weapon. It was wielded by Lepant during the Gate Rune War and he passed it down to Sheena when he left ostensibly to study. Sheena would wield the sword during the Dunan Unification War.

Trivia

Kirinji is a flamberge, a type of sword characterized by its wavy blade. These waves were thought to enable the user to inflict greater injuries upon his opponent as well as aid in parrying by slowing an opponent's sword and creating unpleasant vibrations in the opponent's blade.
