Suikoden III: The Successor of Fate 8 (幻想水滸伝III -運命の継承者- 8, Gensōsuikoden III Unmei no Keishō-sha 8) is the eighth volume of Suikoden III: The Successor of Fate, the licensed manga adaptation of Suikoden III published by Media Factory between 2002 and 2006.

This volume would be published by Tokyopop in the United States, with an extra two pages summarizing the story thus far.

The eighth volume covers much of Geddoe's Chapter 5 with some significant differences as well as weaving the burgeoning alliance aspects of the game's Chapter 4.

Overview

Thomas and the denizens of Budehuc Castle are busy as the influx of refugees increases. Sasarai, wounded, puts his trust in Dominguez Jr. to lead him and his remaining allies to safety.

Meanwhile, the Grasslanders continue to debate allying with Zexen as Chris approaches with her force. Hugo wakes up, his sleep filled with visions from the True Fire Rune and its past bearer, the Flame Champion. The meeting between Grassland and Zexen threatens to break out into violence before Caesar manages to calm things by explaining how the Harmonians likely manipulated the original breaking down of the truce discussions.

Albert reports to Luc on the coup d'etat in Zexen. The two dismiss the idea of an alliance between Zexen and Grassland, they're too fractured. Luc ponders his next action, securing the True Lightning Rune, seeing as he knows the True Fire and True Water Runes are being held by the enemy forces. Meanwhile, while the leaders and tacticians of both Zexen and the Six Clans attempt to form a plan, Chris tries to speak with Hugo but their past battles make it difficult.

Geddoe has Ace attempt to find Sasarai while he lures Franz in an attempt to sway the Le Buque forces into defecting. Disorientated, Franz retreats. Duke's 14th Unit then confront Geddoe, only to have both units find themselves surrounded by Sarah and her monster troops. Sarah manages to steal Geddoe's True Lightning Rune with the power of the stolen True Earth Rune, leaving the monsters to finish both groups off.

Ace and Joker find Sasarai's group and convince them to accompany them to Budehuc Castle. Before they can leave, Yuber appears to finish Sasarai off but is thwarted by Nash. Tensions begin to bubble over between Zexen and Grassland at Budehuc Castle to Thomas' dismay, while Hugo struggles to accept the truth of Chris' relationship to Jimba and her bearing the True Water Rune.

Differences from the game

  • The events concerning Geddoe are an adaptation of his in-game Chapter 5 quest where he journeys to Le Buque and the Altar of the Mantor Trainers.
  • In the game, Luc is present for the attack on Geddoe. In this volume, he is mainly concerned with planning the Harmonian advance to secure the Ceremonial Site.
  • In the game, Nash brings Sasarai to Budehuc Castle following Luc's attack at the Circle Palace. Here, Sasarai is pursued by Yuber and rescued by Nash, Ace, and Joker.
  • The divisions between Zexen and Grassland, as well as Chris and Hugo, are more pronounced in this volume as opposed to the game, where they've already been fighting together and attempting to overcome their mutual resentment for longer.
