Thorwad Albreck (トルワド・アルブレク, Toruwado Arubureku) is a supporting character in Genso Suikoden Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki. Thorwad is a famed swordsman and master of the Blue Flash Style, known for his role in fighting the Teras Pharma 100 years ago.

History

This is the world we protected. If it's in danger again, I'll fight for it, even if it's 100 years from now.

—  Thorwad Albreck

Thorwad Albreck was a swordsman from Therbe Village, highly regarded in the year 300 as a hero. He was the ancestor of Syggni Albreck, and therefore the hero as well. He was a swordsman of the Blue Flash Style and fought in the eastern provinces in the HIY 200 Teras Pharma conflict, basing him at the lake fortress.

He was the first person from the past that the hero and Myra met, after they used the Era Tree at the fortress ruins to escape the Teras Pharma. Although initially skeptical, Thorwad quickly became convinced of the truth of the hero's tale and attempted to return with them to fight the Teras Pharma, only to discover it was not possible.

Thorwad "Carbon Offset" Albreck

Instead, Thorwad offered to teach the hero one of his Blue Flash Style techniques. He figured such a technique would only take several days to teach, thanks to the hero's own experience in the style, but was shocked when the technique was passed on much quicker, thanks to the power of the 108 Stars.

Following this, Thorwad proved to be a stalwart ally to the hero and his company. He would plant Era Trees in the past, ensure the upkeep of the lake fortress so the hero could use it in his own time, introduce the hero to other members of his group, and offered advice and information whenever he could provide it. Like many, he did not fully trust the Holy Empire of Ionia but his cooperation with them during the Teras Pharma conflict tempered this somewhat.

As such, he was incredulous when the hero warned that Ionia might target Thorwad or Therbe Village in the year 200 in order to change the future, or when the hero posited that the empire was propagating Teras Pharma. Still, Thorwad took these warnings to heart and prepared accordingly, trusting greatly in the hero.

Repelling an Ionian attack, Thorwad and his comrades would go to investigate the Yggdrasilian Palace and discover the truth of Renefarious' designs. There, they would fight and defeat him, weakening him enough for the heroes of the future to strike him down for good.

Following the fall of the barrier, Thorwad organized the first group of migrants from the east. He took the lead and headed eastwards. In a branch of the Infinity where the chains of causality were not broken, he instead continued to maintain the lake fortress, doing what he could to keep Renefarious' prediction of a tragic repeat of history in check.
