The Echidna (エキドナ, Ekidona) is an enemy which appears in Suikoden.
Although the Echidna is a strong monster, boasting the highest non-boss PWR and MGC stats in the game, as well as having the highest Level and potch payout, it is relatively simple to overwhelm quickly at this point in the game.
As Echidna appears in large groups of enemies, it is easy to weaken with a wide-range fire spell before using the rest of the party to finish it and any other survivors off.
The Echidna is also the only monster who drops the rare Windspun Armor, which is the best armor in the game for Blackman, Humphrey, Kessler, Kreutz, Kwanda, Pesmerga, and Varkas.
Information
During the late Gate Rune War, following the Last Battle, many monsters appeared in Gregminster Palace.
Of these, the Echidna is said to be one of the most formidable of all enemies. Even a battle-tested warrior would struggle against the height of its vitality and magic power.
Its crescent blasts of energy were able to bring down even the hardiest fighters. But those who were able to defeat the Echidna had a chance to obtain the Windspun Armor, the best armor at the time. Warriors fortunate to get this armor unscathed would have obtained impregnable defensive power.
