Arus (アールス, Ārusu) is a region of the Toran Republic, and its predecessor, the Scarlet Moon Empire. It is the region containing the nation's capital, Gregminster.

In gameplay guides, etc. for the first Suikoden, it is often referred to as the "Gregminster area" or "Area A", as the first portion of the world map the player can access. At the end of the game, it is also referred to as "Area I", the final region.

Overview

Arus refers to the lands surrounding the capital of Gregminster. Both the Fortress of Kwaba and the Floating Fortress of Shasarazade protect Arus as the heart of the nation. It has a higher level of culture compared to other regions and is very active in commerce.

Arus is said to have a mild and temperate climate all year round. The region is bordered by the very high Banner Mountains to the west and the fortresses of Kwaba and Shasarazade in the south, making Arus very difficult to invade through neighboring regions.

Instead, it was the corrupt internal politics that felled the Scarlet Moon Empire, with its defensive isolation allowing political corruption to fester in the final years of Emperor Barbarossa's reign.
