Gouran (ゴウラン Gouran) is a region of the Toran Republic, and its predecessor, the Scarlet Moon Empire. It is located to the south of the region of Arus and comprised most of the nation's eastern lands.
In gameplay guides, etc. for the first Suikoden, it is often referred to as the "Kouan area" or "Area B", as the second portion of the world map the player can access.
Information
Due to the winds blowing south from Lake Toran, Gouran has a slightly harsher climate than other areas in the Toran region. Being mostly bordered by the lake shore, the region has a great many fishing villages and small port towns.
As such, people of the region tended to value bravado and candidness. Gouran was generally considered a poor region and its people wore simple clothing made of pieces of cloth tied together by string.
Udon, a type of thick noodle made from wheat flour, was a specialty of the Gouran region not normally found elsewhere.
