Dolenz (ドレンツ, Dorentsu) is a character from the Suikoden II novelization and Genso Suikoden Short Story Collection 3. He is a warrior and loyal comrade of General Kiba Windamier. Known for his strength, mastery of the broad axe, and iconic horned helmet, Dolenz played a pivotal role in key battles and served as a mentor to Kiba's son, Klaus.
History
Dolenz was a soldier of the Highland Army, known for his immense strength, unwavering loyalty, and mastery of the broad axe and meteor hammer. A towering figure clad in full plate armor and a horned helmet, Dolenz was a sight to behold on the battlefield.
Dolenz was a trusted comrade of the General Kiba Windamier. He fought alongside Kiba from the general's earliest campaigns, including the fierce battle at Rhetto Fortress, where Dolenz was one of the few survivors. His valor and resilience in the face of overwhelming odds marked him as a warrior of exceptional caliber, and he quickly became a pillar of Kiba's forces.
When Kiba's son, Klaus, joined the ranks as a young recruit, Dolenz took it upon himself to mentor the boy. He regaled Klaus with tales of military heroism and imparted wisdom born of years of experience. It was Dolenz who first advised Klaus to forge his own path in warfare, separate from the shadow of his father. This counsel set Klaus on the course to becoming a masterful strategist in his own right.
By the time of the Dunan Unification War, Dolenz served as the vice commander of the 3rd Highland Army, serving directly under Kiba. His prowess in battle was unmatched, and he clashed with some of the most formidable fighters of the New State Army, including Viktor.
Despite the shifting allegiances and chaos of the war, Dolenz's loyalty to Kiba remained steadfast. When Kiba was captured and chose to join the New State Army, Dolenz, without hesitation, defected to stand by his commander's side once more.
During the battle against Luca Blight, in a moment of dire peril, Dolenz intercepted a fatal strike aimed at Kiba, using his meteor hammers to deflect Luca's blow. He then engaged Luca in single combat, buying Kiba precious time to escape.
Though Dolenz was a warrior of no small skill, he was no match for the ferocity of Luca Blight. In a final act of sacrifice, Dolenz fell in battle, his life extinguished to ensure the survival of his commander and friend.
Trivia
- First written for the Suikoden II novelization, where he dies in his only appearance, Dolenz would make another appearance in the third Short Story Collection in a story set in Klaus' youth.
