Etymology

A roc (or rukh) is a legendary giant bird of prey. The myth has its roots in Arabian legends and sailor sightings and was readily adopted by western explorers. Their existence was held to be fact for centuries, mainly thanks to the writings of Marco Polo, before the spread of rationalism in the 17th century encouraged a more critical view of the roc and its origins.

Trivia

  • The Roc's Japanese name is identical to that of original Suikoden character Roc.
