Rune Information

Attack rune

The Gadget Rune (からくりの紋章, Karakuri no Monshō), translated as Trick Rune in Suikoden and Suikoden II, is a rune which appears in several games of the Suikoden series.

Information

This rune was attached to Juppo during the Gate Rune War. The rune gave the bearer the ability to create, control, and manipulate a mechanical doll. These dolls do not function without the use of the rune.

The origin of this rune is unknown, but some theorize that it is a mechanical being created by Juppo in the shape of a rune. The rune mark itself looks as if it has a segmented head, torso, and hands, almost like a diagram.

Meg would later inherit the rune from Juppo, using it during the Dunan Unification War. Meg's use of the rune was restricted to once per battle and with more power behind it, perhaps due to her own tinkering.

During the War of the Champions, Gadget Z would wield this rune. It would allow him to merge with a giant robot, causing great destruction to his foes, but at the cost of his own health and balance.

  • Called the Trick Rune in the first two games, the Japanese word karakuri does mean trick, but it is also a term used for mechanical dolls and string puppets and forms part of the Japanese name for Gadget and Gadget Z.
