Michelan was viewed as a weak emperor which allowed Geil to gain influence over the aristocracy and courts. This led to the [[War of Succession]] when Michelan passed away and Geil attempted to take the crown from Barbarossa.

Michelan Rugner (ミケラン・ルーグナー Mikeran Rūgunā) is a character mentioned in background supplements for Suikoden. He was Emperor of the Scarlet Moon Empire and the father of Barbarossa Rugner.

History

Michelan was born the younger son of Kallnach Rugner and so it was a surprise when he was appointed heir to the throne over his older brother, Geil. This would earn him Geil's life-long enmity. Geil would claim that Michelan usurped his birthright but the truth of the matter is unclear.

Michelan went on to become Emperor and had six sons of his own. Most of them died of disease or disgraced themselves, leaving his youngest son, Barbarossa, in position to become his heir.

This led to the War of Succession when Michelan passed away and Geil attempted to take the crown from Barbarossa.
