Prior to its foundation, the Dunan Republic was two nations, the City-State of Jowston forming the western areas and the Highland Kingdom, located on the eastern coast. Prior to this, the Highland Kingdom existed as a looming threat to the various city-states that had formed during the gradual break-up of the Kingdom of Dunan.
The Dunan Republic was formed from the victorious New Alliance Army after the Dunan Unification War. It is a vast nation centerd around Lake Dunan, incorporating the territories of the old City-States of Jowston and the former Highland Kingdom.

War broke out between Highland and Jowston in 460 and ended later that year with the Highland Kingdom conquered by the remnants of the Jowston forces. With the infrastructure of both Jowston and Highland destroyed by the war, the Dunan Republic was founded by the victorious army to govern the region following the war.
It was expected that the leader of the New Alliance Army would be appointed President with the backing of the former City-State leaders but he left the nation around the time of its founding. The Dunan Republic was established with Teresa Wisemail serving as Acting President with Shu as her Chancellor. The following year saw Teresa win the election for the first President of the Republic, her hard work and steady leadership not going unnoticed by the populace. Following the election, Shu stepped down from his position, appointing Klaus Windamier to his post.

The first major test for the fledgling nation occurred in 472 when what is known as the Higheast Rebellion took place. Southern Harmonian forces, working with Highland loyalists in the Higheast Province, led an invasion of the area in order to reclaim the land which had once belonged to Harmonia (over 200 years ago). Harmonian troops entered the region as the Dunan Republican Army engaged them. A protracted war was avoided when internal conflict was stirred up within the Harmonian government; breaking Harmonian morale and allowing the Dunan forces to push back the invaders.

Following its establishment, Dunan traded far and wide with many Muse exports being sent to Harmonia for sale. The Matilda Knights bequeathed the Harmonian town of Caleria several of their horses in order to further facilitate trade. Active trade with the Grassland, which the region had previous engaged in under the banner of the City-State of Jowston, also continued.

The Dunan Republic (デュナン共和国, Deyunan Kyōwakoku) is a country located in the eastern region of the northern continent. It was established as the successor state of both the City-States of Jowston and the Highland Kingdom at the end of Suikoden II.

Information

The Dunan Republic was formed from the victorious New Alliance Army after the Dunan Unification War. It is a vast nation centerd around Lake Dunan, incorporating the territories of the old City-States of Jowston and the former Highland Kingdom.

It was expected that the leader of the New Alliance Army would be appointed President with the backing of the former City-State leaders but he left the nation around the time of its founding. Instead former Greenhill City Mayor Teresa Wisemail was appointed Acting President with Shu as her Chancellor.

Two years later, Teresa would be elected President by representatives of each city. Shu would step down from his position and Klaus Windamier would be appointed Chancellor in his place. In other regions of the country, Fitcher would become Mayor of Muse City and Miklotov would be appointed leader of the Matilda Knights.
