The Eight Section Rune (八鬼房の紋章, Yatsufusa no Monshō) is one of the 27 True Runes. It is the rune of the dark knight, Yuber.

Information

The Eight Section Rune is one of the 27 True Runes and is said to be in the possession of Yuber. Much like its owners, its effect and nature are a complete mystery.

It is difficult to say to what extent the fearsome Yuber's abilities are due to the power of this rune and to what extent they are due to Yuber's own enigmatic abilities.

Name

The name Yatsufusa, spelled identically to the name of the rune in both kanji and hiragana, is from the novel Nansō Satomi Hakkenden by Kyokutei Bakin. In the novel, a lord jokingly promises his daughter's hand in marriage to a dog, Yatsufusa, if the animal can defeat his enemy. To his surprise, Yatsufusa succeeds and his daughter leaves with the dog despite her father's protests.

One year later, a warrior attempts to rescue the daughter by defeating Yatsufusa. In the struggle, he accidentally kills both her and Yatsufusa. When she dies, he leaves behind eight sacred beads which fly away on the wind. The eight beads represent the eight virtues of Confucianism.
