Valfred (ベルフレイド, Berufureido) is a main character in Suikoden Tierkreis. Valfred is the founder and current Chancellor of the Order of the One True Way.
History
Valfred is the founder and Chancellor of the Order of the One True Way. Coming into possession of the True Chronicle, he is able to use its power to predict natural phenomena. The proximity of the True Chronicle also renders him ageless. He has not aged in the decades since obtaining the tome, prompting many rumors within the Order.
Decades ago, Valfred was an ordinary man, with a loving family. This would all change when he lost his family to the first world fusion; the arrival of Cynas and the Scribes. He would learn of the existence of the True Chronicle from the Scribes and managed to obtain it. From there, he learned of the idea of the One King.
He founded the Order to search for False Chronicles, and the Order's power and teachings would expand across the continent over the years. The reason Valfred gave for seeking the False Chronicles was to reduce the damage caused by world fusion, but his true motivation was to cause 12 world fusions in order to summon the One King and fuse the world to his, bringing about the Perpetual Day, and reuniting him with his lost family.
Although he was resisted by the Starbearers, Valfred would eventually manage to complete his ritual, repeating the time spent with his family through the One King's Perpetual Day.
Even that too would be lost, however, when the hero entered Cynas and Valfred's Perpetual Day to stop the One King. Valfred would transform into Death Valfred and fight the Company in order to protect his "everything" but was defeated and dissipated into a sea of light along with his memories.
