Guin (グエン, Guen) is a character from Genso Suikoden Short Story Collection 1. He was the former leader of the Mt. Seifu bandits.
History
Guin was the former leader of the Mt. Seifu bandits and hailed from the same village as Varkas. The group began as a small number who only ambushed people traveling alone but grew in numbers and boldness over time, attacking merchant caravans in broad daylight.
Although he had apparently been a caring leader at one point, over time he would become increasingly despotic and would often clash with Varkas over various plans. All the while he would dress and decorate his home in more ostentatious takings. He believed strongly that might made right, and that those who had to reply on strategy to succeed were untrustworthy.
His paranoia would eventually lead Guin to confiscating all weapons from the bandits themselves, leaving them near defenseless, claiming they did not have the discipline to handle weapons. This would lead to a heated confrontation with Varkas, where Guin would strike him, furious at being disrespected.
He would eventually resort to trying to poison Varkas, strong-arming Hodai into preparing the concoction, under the guise of a friendly drink to smooth over their disagreements, and then attacking him with a knife but would be stopped by Varkas and Sydonia. Varkas would cut him down and Guin would bleed out on the ground, no one willing to defend or save him.
After Guin's death, Varkas would succeed him as leader with the support of the bandits.
