Dancing With Karen (カレンと踊ろう, Karen to Odorou), commonly referred to as the dancing or rhythm game, is a mini-game that appears in Suikoden II.
Information
Karen, a dancer who joined the New State Army during the Dunan Unification War, was dedicated to her training even at the New State Army Headquarters.
It is said that everyone who met Karen backstage accompanied her in her dance practice. It was very difficult to dance as well as Karen, who was an excellent dancer, but if one could impress her, they would receive a prize in return.
Rules
As Karen demonstrated her dance, the buttons to press are displayed on the screen. The player attempts to memorize the positions of the buttons and the order in which they are to be pressed.
When it is the player's turn to dance, they must press the buttons as Karen previously demonstrated. Making mistakes during input will cause the player to lose. Being out of rhythm will also count as a loss, so the player's sense of rhythm is also important.
It was a mini-game that required good memory and rhythm. Later stages would remove the background beat entirely, increasing the difficulty of timing one's inputs.
