—  Pahn

A skilled martial artist, Pahn is a soldier who swore allegiance to Geil Rugner during the War of Succession. During this war, Pahn duelled General Teo McDohl and lost; after losing to him, Pahn defected to Barbarosa Rugner's side and joined Teo McDohl's forces. Following the Succession War, Pahn came to live in the McDohl household and even helped in the upbringing of Teo's young son, Tir McDohl. Pahn is an avid eater who enjoys food of all varieties, especially anything made by Gremio. He's also one of the few people to use the Boar Rune. Pahn continued to protect and help Tir, as Teo had wished[1], during Tir's missions for the Imperial Guard.

However, when Pahn, Cleo, Gremio and Tir discovered an unconscious, badly beaten Ted, he quickly deduced that it was the Imperial Guard who had wanted Ted[2]. Though the rest of the McDohl household was hesitant to do so, Pahn wanted to contact the Imperial Guard, lest they get Teo into trouble[3]. Though Cleo tried to delay any decision until Ted woke up and told them what had happened, Pahn eventually left to notify the Imperial Guard of Ted's whereabouts[4]. This caused Tir McDohl, Gremio, and Cleo to become fugitives as they were forced to flee the Gregminster.

During the beginning of the Gate Rune War, Pahn served the Scarlet Moon Empire, but he would eventually reunite with Tir, Gremio, and Cleo in Kouan. Though commanded by Kraze Miles to capture Tir and his party [5], Pahn declined, saying that while he did not regret his decision[6], Pahn could no longer stand by the Scarlet Moon Empire as he wished to follow his heart[7] and join the Toran Liberation Army[8]. Tir quickly welcomed Pahn into his forces and Pahn, in return, protected Tir loyally; he was one of the first to arrive after an assassin attacked Tir[9] and even stood guard with Gremio outside of Tir's door the following evening[10]. Pahn was affected greatly by Gremio's death, and protested against Milich Oppenheimer being allowed to join the Toran Liberation Army[11].

Pahn proved his loyalty when Teo McDohl attacked the Toran Liberation Army headquarters, Toran Castle. Unable to compete with the force of Teo McDohl's Armored Cavalry, the Liberation Army was forced to withdraw. To buy them time, Pahn waited to hold off Teo McDohl[12]. Teo challenged Pahn to a one-on-one duel, which satisfied Pahn's wish that he would one day fight Teo[13]. Pahn proved the victor of the duel, forcing Teo to retreat, though Pahn would always wonder whether Teo had taken it easy on him[14].

Pahn continued to serve Tir throughout the Toran Liberation War, pleased to see that Tir had matured into a young leader[15] but missed him greatly[16].

Following the fall of the Scarlet Moon Empire and the end of the Toran Liberation War, left on a journey to improve himself[17]. Three years later, however, he returned to Gregminster, since he was out of money, although he claimed it was because he had a feeling that Tir would be returning to the city.

Trivia

  • Like him or not, you are going to have to build Pahn up for the fight of his life against Teo or you will risk not getting a complete game. Including Pahn in your trip through the Kunan region (Milich Oppenheimer's domain) may help expedite this as to cut down on any boring grinding you may need to do before the Teo battle.
  • Pahn shares the same battle sprite as Morgan, it's a simple palette swap with minor differences.
  • If one examines Pahn's diary in Gregminster after one returns from the audience with Emperor Barbarosa, one can see Pahn's food diary[18], which will be updated the next day[19].
  • Pahn's Boar Rune cannot be removed, but, unlike most martial artist's runes in Suikoden, this rune is not unique to Pahn and can be found in treasure chests in the Village of the Hidden Rune and dropped by the Death Boar on the Dwarf Trail.
