Tinto Principality (ティント市国, Tinto Shikuni, Tinto City State) is a region in Suikoden II. It is a constituent city-state of the City-States of Jowston.
Overview
Tinto Principality lies in the far west of Dunan and is relatively isolated from the rest of the region. To the east lies Two River Principality and in the west lies the frontier of the Grasslands.
Tinto City was established by the Tinto’s Miner Guild, using its organizational structure in SY 366. It would become a member of the City-States of Jowston immediately afterwards.
Tinto served as a mostly neutral member of the City-States of Jowston. Separated from the rest of Jowston by the Lampdragon Mountains, its political objectives and outlooks often differed from its eastern partners.
It was one of the more militarily powerful members of the alliance and repeatedly invaded the Grasslands unaided. It also engaged in warfare with the southern Scarlet Moon Empire in alliance with South Window Principality.
In 447, Tinto would lead an invasion of Scarlet Moon in the aftermath of their War of Succession but were eventually repelled. In 456, during the Gate Rune War, they and South Window would occupy Senan for a time but were eventually pushed out by the new Toran Republic by 458.
Following the establishment of the Dunan Republic in 460, Tinto Principality would choose not to join the new nation. Instead, the Tinto Republic was founded by Gustav Pendragon.
