Tesshu (テッシュウ, Tesshuu) is a character in Genso Suikoden Short Story Collection 4. Tesshu is the talented young brother of Genshu.
History
|
Tesshu, like his older brother Genshu, was a swordsman born into the warrior caste in his homeland. Despite his natural talents, he was considered a kind and gentle soul.
In their village, Tesshu and Genshu were known as "the wise and foolish siblings" respectively, with Tesshu being recognized as the more naturally talented and humble of the two, while Genshu's obsession with swords and relentless pursuit of victory earned him a reputation for recklessness.
Tesshu paid no heed to this gossip and always respected and adored his older brother. Still, driven by his inferiority complex, Genshu left his home village to seek strength through life-and-death duels, leaving a trail of bodies behind.
Feeling left behind by the swordsman he aspired to be like, Tesshu gave up the way of the sword and threw himself into a satisfying life as a farmer. Genshu was surprised on hearing the news, but assumed Tesshu was still well capable of leading his family without pursuing his path.
When rumors reached Tesshu of Genshu's killing spree, he would pick up the sword again. He was determined to protect his brother in his own way by stopping his rampage.
Disguising himself with a mask, he would challenge Genshu to a duel but was defeated. Bleeding out, he would reveal his identity to Genshu, sharing his motivations for pursuing him.
Though Tesshu did not admonish his brother, he did beg him to ask the question "why do you swing your sword" before passing away. The question and the fact that he had murdered his brother would haunt Genshu for a long time.
