Biography

Those wretches brought those filthy monsters into our territory. I'd like to toss every last one of 'em out of here.

—  Jagwan

Jagwan was a martial artist and leader of the scalehorde in HIY 300. Very lively and jovial for a scalehorde, he was prone to mood swings. Still, he commanded the respect of his men and generally was a helpful, if coarse, individual. He was also an old friend of the Holy Imperial Army's General Damdin, Jagwan even allowing Damdin to marry his sister.

He would first encounter the Company as they battled Zaveed in the Apiro Hills. Jagwan would help run off the Vermilion Axe before brusquely brushing off the hero's thanks. Still, a little while later, he would give the hero information on Sunil in the Apiro Desert and also allowed them to rest at the scalehorde camp at the Behemoth Grave.

When Machia Zaphir and the Order of the Gilded Leaf blocked the Company's path to the House of Wisdom, it would Jagwan and his scalehorde soldiers who would successfully rescue them yet again. Accompanying them to the House of Wisdom, Jagwan's scalehorde sense for Teras Pharma proved useful.

Following the destruction of the House of Wisdom, Jagwan left the Company to consult with his men before returning to aid the Company for the remainder of the war. Upon meeting Radnin, he was at first disdainful towards the scalehorde for his loyalty to Empress Astrid. Jagwan felt this made Radnin a toady, Radnin thought it worthy service for the Empress who helped the scalehorde so much. After a brawl, Radnin would come to appreciate Jagwan's gregariousness, seeing it as representing a positive future for the scalehorde.

As a member of the Company, Jagwan sometimes butted heads with Tserendrum, feeling she was wasting her strength by not engaging in the martial arts. Still, Jagwan felt some insecurity about his own vocation. Part of the reason he trained as a martialist was because Damdin had discouraged him from using the spear, claiming he was no good at it. Ducas would volunteer to train Damdin regardless.

Jagwan would be part of the team that infiltrated the Floating Fortress of Torgia and ended up confronting his old friend, Damdin. Both incredibly obstinate in their own ways the two would inevitably come to blows. After Damdin's death, Jagwan would mourn his loss, noting that it wasn't order or chaos that had brought this, but Damdin's own decisions.

Following the fall of the barrier, Jagwan led his clan across the Apiro Desert, settling in the southern plains and founding a great kingdom of scalehorde. In a branch of the Infinity where the chains of causality were completely broken, however, he organized the scalehorde to build migrant ships and settlements, greatly aiding Empress Astrid.
