A card type (カードの種類, Kādo no shurui) refers to the three main types of cards used in Gensosuikoden Card Stories.

Gensosuikoden Card Stories contains over 1,000 different cards which can be divided into three broad categories. These three card types are character cards, mission cards and facilities cards. There are a handful of other cards which do not fit into these card types but they generally cannot be played in Card Stories games and are for collection purposes only. It is generally recommended that a standard 50-card deck be made up of about 35 character cards although there are no actual rules regard this.

Card variants such as the Star Parallel, Radiance Star Parallel and Sign Rare cards are treated the same as their normal versions for the purposes of the game.
