Yen Qing (イエン・チン, Ien Chin) is a character from Genso Suikoden Short Story Collection 3. He is a chef of the Black Dragon Cooking Clan who challenged Hai Yo.
History
Yen Qing was a chef belonging to the Black Dragon Cooking Clan. He was a thin man who wore fiery red chefs clothing. He was known as a silent master of the cooking world, famed for his heart-warming cooking that brought tears of joy to those who ate it.
When Hai Yo attempted to flee Black Dragon Island, Yen Qing would attempt to bar Hai Yo's path. He challenged Hai Yo to a cook-off, offering to tell him where Shun Min was being held if he won, but Hai Yo would have to hand over the Moon Bird Recipe to Yen Qing if he lost.
Yen Qing admitted that he had no interest in the Moon Bird Recipe personally, nor from keeping Hai Yo from Shun Min. However, he did claim to resent Hai Yo for attempting to abandon the Black Dragon Cooking Clan.
When Hai Yo won, Yen Qing realized he had been used as bait as the group's assassins descended upon Hai Yo. Together, the two would attempt to fight the assassins off.
Wounded in the attempt, Yen Qing would draw the assassins away from Hai Yo by claiming he had the Moon Bird Recipe and threatening to destroy it. He also admitted that Shun Min had already been killed, he had evoked her name to press Hai Yo into a duel to see if he was truly worthy of protecting the Moon Bird Recipe.
Yen Qing would hold off the assassins after pushing Hai Yo into the sea before being captured. His fate afterwards is unknown.
