Biography

Suikoden

My loyalty for Emperor Barbarosa remains firm. But I cannot serve the present Emperor, whoever he may be.

—  Kwanda Rosman

Kwanda Rosman is a powerful soldier and Great General, and became known as Iron Wall Rosman and Kwanda the Insurmountable[1] for his invulnerable defence and dedication towards protecting Barbarosa's life. Kwanda served Barbarosa for over a decade[2], including during the War of Succession.

Kwanda Rosman governed the Great Forest region, and was stationed at Pannu Yakuta Castle. Windy, the Court Magician of the Scarlet Moon Empire, gave Kwanda a Conqueror Rune, which he used to control monsters [3]. However, the Conqueror Rune also weakened Kwanda's willpower[4].

Kwanda launched an attack to subjugate the region, first stealing the blueprint of the Burning Mirror from the dwarves and building it[5]. He then drove the kobolds of the Great Forest mad with his rune[6], before using the Burning Mirror to burn down Lukie Ende Towayo[7]. In response to this, the Toran Liberation Army mobilized its forces and marched on Pannu Yakuta and Kwanda was routed. Kwanda prepared to use the Burning Mirror to defend Pannu Yakuta[8], but was prevented in doing so by the Chief of the Dwarves' Firewind Cannon[9] breaking the mirror into pieces.

When Tir McDohl and his party arrived, Kwanda Rosman challenged Tir to a duel[10], which Tir McDohl proved the victor of. Following his defeat, Kwanda's Black Rune began to burn[11] and Kwanda regained control of his senses. Distraught, Kwanda asked to be executed[12], but was instead invited to join the Toran Liberation Army. Realizing that the Empire was quickly becoming corrupt beyond repair[13], Kwanda agreed.

Kwanda Rosman fought with the Liberation Army throughout the Gate Rune War, leading his own unit. During the fall of Gregminster, Kwanda Rosman was present at the Gregminster Palace following the battle, where he expressed concern for Barbarosa[14] and witnessed the emperor's leap from the balcony with Windy. Following the fall of the Scarlet Moon Empire, he became one of the Six Great Generals of the Toran Republic and the Commander in Chief of the Republican Army[15]. By the time of the Second Fire Bringer War, Kwanda no longer held this position; instead he was given the title of Honourary General.

Trivia

  • The names for Kwanda’s Hatchets: Alkaid, Mizar, and Alioth, are stars in the constellation Ursa Major, forming the tail of the bear; these stars are also present in the constellation of the Big Dipper.
  • Kwanda is the first Star of Destiny the player will encounter, who has the option of being executed. Should one choose to execute Kwanda when given the first opportunity to do so, Windy will show up to taunt Tir and company, but she will not appear if you choose to kill Kwanda later on in the scene after he requests that you do so.
