Grubs (地蟲, Dijimushi) are members of an espionage group that appears in Genso Suikoden Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki. In the employ of the Mountain Roots, they have no name officially as officially they do not exist.

Information

They have... no official name. However, they were called Grubs, off the record.

—  Regius

Holding no official title, the Grubs worked behind the scenes on behalf of the Mountain Roots, the Holy Empire of Ionia's administrative bureau. They were likened to grubs turning death into nutrients for the tree to absorb, hence their name. The Grubs performed the dirty work to support Ionia and the Mountain Roots.

Rochelle Kollek was a member of the group and fought alongside them at Martylion in HIY 297 when Syggni Albreck confronted their plot to manufacture an insurgency to rally the people again. Regius knew of the Grubs also from his time in the Mountain Roots 20 years prior.

The Grubs guarded Mt. Plegate and the House of Wisdom and battled the Vermilion Axe there as Aaron Barcai made his way to the facility. Grubs also ambushed the Company on the Riolta Plains in an attempt to stop them from reaching Mt. Plegate but were thwarted by Jagwan and his scalehorde soldiers.

The Grubs' loyalty was to the Mountain Roots solely. They showed no hesitation in attacking Quinelia Liuis's 3rd Branch when they came to investigate the fighting of the Riolta Plains and their subsequent pursuit of the Company.

In past centuries the Grubs aided in the releasing of Teras Pharma beyond the barrier to replenish their numbers. Astrid would confront Bazarte Lugam and his Grubs at West Mt. Hioni in HIY 100. Yofeurs saw the Grubs bring Teras Pharma containers through the Wyvern Nest in HIY 200. Mephitis had previously made poisoned arrows for the Grubs, partially leading to her losing her voice.
