Gen (ゲン, Gen) is a supporting character in Suikoden. A shipwright by trade, Gen invented a motorboat with the scientist Kamandol.

A friend of Kamandol, Gen is a shipwright living in Teien. Gen held a strong interest in his trade and little else, not even recognizing the Toran Liberation Army when they visited him during the Gate Rune War[1]. Gen gained an interest in the Toran Liberation Army when Tir McDohl requested a boat that would beat the Rapids of Dunan. Gen, finding this an interesting challenge, readily accepted, but admitted that he could not do the job alone, as an ordinary boat could not pass the rapids[2].
Gen quickly brought Tir McDohl and his entourage to his neighbor, Kamandol, with whom he enjoyed a friendly, if bickering, relationship. Kamandol, equally intrigued by the idea of conquering the Rapids of Dunan, agreed to help the Toran Liberation Army, showing them one of his inventions: an engine that ran on oil. In order to test the engine, Tir McDohl and his party, along with Kamandol and Gen travelled to Rikon. Gen and Kamandol immediately went to work, making the boat a motorboat. After working throughout the night, Gen and Kamandol completed their work, each deciding to join the Toran Liberation Army. Using the new engine, the group successfully navigated the Rapids of Dunan.
Gen served in the Toran Liberation Army throughout the Toran Liberation War, acting as a look out when Teo McDohl attacked Toran Castle[3]. Later on, Gen and Kamandol invented another improved boat, this one capable of high speeds[4]. Gen had a habit of calling Tir McDohl "Boss" which infuriated the more formal Kamandol[5].
Prior to the Battle at Floating Fortress Shasarazade, Gen was forced to work all night, only taking a brief break to visit Kamandol[6]. Gen's dedication to the Toran Liberation Army did not waver, as he and his troops were still trying to fix what they could prior to the last battle[7].
Following the conclusion of the Toran Liberation War, Gen returned to Teien to continue his line of work[8].
