By 460, Agares was seen as a weak and incompetent monarch based on his lack of control over Highland. Luca Blight then took the throne as King of Highland.

Biography

Suikoden II

Agares Blight was a moderate king who, upon rising to the Highland throne after the passing of his father, Robert, sued for peace during the First Jowston-Highland War. Although not a talented ruler, he held hopes for a more peaceful society and was able to maintain an uneasy peace with the City-State of Jowston. However, such policies led to fierce opposition from within the military and he reluctantly entrusted the military to his son, Luca.

He was never truly able to love Jillia, due to the nature of her conception and his son, Luca, held him responsible for the madness and eventual death of his wife, Sara. Following this, a grief-stricken Agares failed to place adequate checks on Luca, ironically generating more contempt from his son for being weak-minded as the Dunan Unification War began.

During the Knight's Oath ceremony, Agares drank the Wine of Fealty, containing the blood of the oathbearer as was the tradition. However, Jowy Atreides' blood was poisoned as part of an assassination plot between himself and Luca. Agares realised he had been betrayed but could do not nothing to prevent his death.
