The 27 True Runes (27真紋章, 27 Shin Monshou) are the most powerful runes, from which all other runes are born. Their nature and origin are unknown but there are myths pertaining to their creation. Not all of the 27 True Runes are known to us at this time.
Overview
Leknaat stated that all other runes in the world were born of the 27 True Runes[1]. As such, each of the True Runes was said to hold enormous power[2] and too powerful to be used by humans[3]. Despite this, many people have borne or at least are familiar with the True Runes. Cleo was aware of the True Runes and recognised the Rune of Life and Death as one when Tir McDohl removed Ted's glove[4].
Normally, a person can only bare a single True Rune at a time. However, Windy had found a method to bare two at the same time, in order to take the Soul Eater while retaining her Gate Rune[5].
