Zegai (ゼガイ, Zegai) is a supporting character in Suikoden V. Zegai is a powerful and fearsome gladiator, enrolled as part of the Barows Faction' plan to secure victory in the Sacred Games.

History

Zegai was born a wandering nomad. His community claimed no land as their home but as he was born in the territories of the New Armes Kingdom, he was designed an Armesian by both those in Armes and elsewhere.

One day, Zegai crossed the border into Falena while hunting and was soon sighted by guards who attempted to arrest him. This arrest attempt soon turned into a huge battle. What had started as a small patrol grew to over a hundred men, and eventually the warrior was subdued and imprisoned in Barows territory. While he may have been locked in prison, his parole came quickly as word spread of his superb fighting skills.

Salum Barows would take Zegai on as a gladiator, set on using him to win the Sacred Games for his son, Euram. Shoon especially admired Zegai's skills during their time together in the Stormfist Arena. Zegai was later involved in a plot by the Godwin Faction, which ended in his disqualification as a contestant for the Sacred Games. Instead of being executed as a spy and traitor, Zegai was assisted by the Prince and freed; in return, Zegai later helped the Prince escape from the Sun Palace during the Queen's Assassination incident in Sol-Falena.

Later during the Sun Rune War, Zegai reacquainted himself with the Prince north of Lunas where he was hunting wild animals before agreeing to join the Imperial City Recapture Army. Urda detested Zegai for his hunting and his actions didn't improve her opinions of humans. During the war, Zegai proved to be an extremely effective fighter on the battlefield. He also served as a bujitsu teacher, giving new insight into his soldiers' own abilities.

Once the war ended, Zegai returned to the wild nomadic lifestyle he had always known.
