Biography

My loyalty lies not with the office of mayor, not with the House of Wisemail... … but with you, Lady Teresa.

—  Shin

Shin is a swordsman from the Southlands. He came north and worked for the House of Wisemail in Greenhill, serving as Lady Teresa's bodyguard.

When the Highland Kingdom occupied Greenhill, Shin helped Teresa hide in the forests behind the city. When members of the New State Army found Teresa's hiding place, Shin was prepared to kill them in order to keep his lady's hiding place from being discovered[1].

Once Teresa had been convinced of the need to leave Greenhill, Shin prevented Highland soldiers from pursuing Teresa. After this, Fitcher took Shin to North Window Castle, where he was reunited with Teresa.

Shin continued to protect Teresa throughout the Dunan Unification War, volunteering to sneak into Greenhill with her and Riou during Greenhill's liberation[2].

Following the war, Shin left Greenhill to sharpen his skills as a swordsman, and never returned[3].

Personality and Traits

Shin was a powerful swordsman who felt that he had nothing to fear so long as he held his blade, Tarantula[4].

During the Highland occupation, Shin kept a low profile in Greenhill. However, he challenged Rowd's violent threats[5] and apologized to citizens who had been mistreated by the Highland soldiers[6].

Shin was quiet and rarely talked with others about his life[7]. However, Richmond believed that Shin would get along well with Genshu, due to their shared love for swordsmanship[8].

Shin was highly devoted to Teresa Wisemail[9]. Richmond thought that it was obvious that Shin and Teresa were in love with one another, but too stubborn to act on it[10]. Shin and Teresa's relationship was the subject of some gossip in Greenhill[11][12].

Trivia

  • Shin is the only character in the entire Suikoden series to have a Spider Slay Rune.
