Once the castle is at level 4 (90+ Stars recruited), talk to Leon in Kalekka and deliver his message to Mathiu when he is not in the meeting hall. Deliver Mathiu's letter to Leon and he will join. There are essentially four opportunities to do this if you've been recruiting efficiently.

• After returning from Neclord's Castle and agreeing to go to the Dragon Knight's Domain.
• After returning from the Dragon Knight's Domain but before resting in your room before undertaking Mathiu's training maneuvers.
• After the Battle at the Northern Checkpoint but before the plot events at Moravia Castle.
• After agreeing to Mathiu's plan to attack Shasarazade but before retiring to bed the night before the battle.
