Eilie (アイリ, Airi) is a character in Suikoden II who also appears in Genso Suikogaiden Volume 2. She is part of a circus group along with Rina and Bolgan.
Biography
Suikoden II
At a young age, her parents were killed by bandits, her only surviving relative being her older sister, Rina. In the wake of the tragedy, the two earned potch singing and dancing and decided to commit to a life as entertainers, travelling everywhere. In the process, Eilie honed knife-throwing techniques learned from her parents while they were still alive. By her mid-teens, she was renowned as a master at throwing knives. Together with Rina, the sisters appeared in circus performances. It was at this time that they met Bolgan, who specialised in the art of fire breathing. Eilie and Rina opted to continue their journey as street performers with Bolgan, and fulfilled a fateful meeting with Riou at Ryube, a small village near the border with the Kingdom of Highland.
Eilie first encountered Riou in Ryube when she selected him as part of her knife-throwing act. After the performance, Eilie, Rina, and Bolgan travelled with Riou to Highland, braving the North Sparrow Pass. However, business proved poor in Highland and the trio journeyed back to the City-States of Jowston. After being reunited with Riou, Eilie followed him to South Window, becoming part of the New State Army. Through these adventures Eilie began to fall for Riou's personality and had soon developed strong feelings for him.
Eilie did her utmost to fulfil her duty as a Royal Guard, confident that Riou could fulfil his role as leader of the New State Army. After the Dunan Unification War, Eilie continued again as a travelling performer, ultimately deciding not to convey her feelings to Riou.
Personality and Traits
Despite her role as a performer, Eilie could be somewhat shy, especially in romance. Though she had a crush on Riou, whenever Rina or Bolgan mentioned it, she would quickly try to silence them. Despite her attempts to keep her feelings quiet, her behaviour made her feelings obvious. Although she appears impulsive and rash, in actually she is a very sensitive and shy person.
Eilie was also said to have a large inferiority complex towards Rina. The two were said to be as different as dogs and cats and Eilie sometimes felt overshadowed by her sister.
